“Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence….” -Jean Arp, artist and poet (16 Sep 1887-1948)
Nowhere it this more true than in Yankee Stadium where I remember the silence of pre-game practice—only the sound of the ball hitting a glove or a bat hitting the ball broke the sacred quiet. During the game the subdued murmur of the crowd was broken only by cheers for a good play or a timely hit. Now, ears are incessantly assaulted by blaring loudspeakers. Are they afraid that in quiet peacefulness we might think?
What do you think?
